Industrial Refurbishment of Receiving Hopper for the Steel Industry

This receiving hopper suffered from wear and tear due to age and usage. As a result it wasn’t functioning at its capacity. Our client, from the steel industry, contacted Refax, Inc. to refurbish the receiving hopper. This particular hopper is located at the top of the blast furnace, and is used to uniformly direct materials to the rotating distributor. For this particular client, refurbishing was the most logical and economical solution.

We picked up the hopper from the client’s location, performed a thorough inspection, and disassembled the unit to begin the restoration. Once the corner and inside liners were removed, we cleaned the hopper via sand/water blasting and hand grinding. Various mild steel sections of the hopper needed to be removed and repaired as needed. Once repaired the hopper was relined with new Chrome Carbide Wear plates, coated with red oxide primer, and processed by our quality control.
